For Evil or Selfish Purposes, Is Not Science of Mind
Someone asked if the power of positive thinking could be used for selfish and evil purposes. Well, anyone can concentrate on and visualize something selfish or even evil and then focus on it with relentless energy. But that's not our practice. That's just goal setting and focused attention. Focusing on a selfish or bad outcome founded on personal gain will collapse as soon as the attention, energy, and focus drop. Our practice is entirely based on goodness and truth. Not personal goodness or my truth, but universal, the common good, and spiritual truth that is true everywhere and for all beings.
Science of Mind: The person whose thought is the most God-like, that is, the truest, the highest, the noblest, the most complete, the most peaceful – will be the best healer.
So our work is to expand two things. First, our understanding of the Divine, and second, our acceptance or receptivity to what the Divine is. If my idea of the Divine is a regional, local deity that excludes others and preserves my best interests, Science of Mind will challenge me to grow that. If what I want in life is for my benefit alone, Science of Mind will challenge me to grow beyond that.
