A spiritual mind treatment (our form of affirmative prayer) has no power unless it has meaning to the one who gives it.
That is what our founder Dr. Ernest Holmes writes in Living the Science of Mind on page 312. He is making a case for our words in prayer to be filled with the warmth of our conviction. He suggests that we take time to use words that we understand, identify with, and that cause us to feel good. Just as a musician who wants to communicate a message must feel something behind the technique of his art, so must we get in touch with our heart when we put our minds to spiritual mind treatment.
The words and phrases we use in our prayers must lead us to a feeling of unity and connection. If we feel nothing after we give a spiritual mind treatment, we need to start again from the beginning and connect with what is in our hearts.
If you would like to read an example of a spiritual mind treatment, visit our online Affirmative Prayer Library at affirmativeprayerlibrary.blogspot.com and if you would like to learn more about this method of prayer, consider the ten-week class, Beyond Limits, which is starting this fall.
Warmly,
Edward Viljoen
