I read that 2 million people turned their lights off for one hour in Sydney on March 31 2007 in obervance of Earth Hour. "With Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House turning their lights off, and unique events such as weddings by candlelight, the world took notice."
The effect of the hour has inspired many major cities to do the same in 2008 - http://www.earthhour.org/
This year on Saturday March 29th 2008, Earth Hour is happening again. This year people all over the globe are going to participate in one of the largest efforts towards conserving energy in the history of our universe.
Welcome to my blog * thoughts and things * poetry, pictures * ideas * opinions * kindness * video * stay and read a while.

What always amazes me about such efforts is the incredible amount of energy it saves. A very nice website too with good ideas and suggestions...yes inspiring. Making just a little effort in the simple act of turning off lights and using efficiency bulbs impacts us in a personal way, for a lower electric bill and for the good of the planet...Brings home to me, that even the smallest effort can stimulate a wave of change, and the power of numbers. Thank you for the gentle reminder Edward.
ReplyDelete"Mutant Message" is a book on my shelf that I picked up again about a woman's "walk about" in Australia with a tribe of aboriginal people. Reading it a second time is revealing how the wisdom of our tradition is not new by a long stretch. The earth, without lights, pure and beautiful, and the Law of the eternal Giver and Provider is in this book and is a message of remembering, and an act of revealing Its Presence again and again. I can already hear the increased silence on March 29th. mmmmmhmmmm... Thanks for this info. Sanna
